Spring Clean Up
April 22nd
10 AM -Noon

Please join fellow homeowners as we clean up the neighborhood.

We'll meet at the Bare Island Drive cul de sac to distribute trash bags and assign clean up areas.

Come for as long as you can.

Bring work gloves and

 we'll supply the rest.

This is a great way to reinforce good stewardship of the environment with your families.

Pipestem Sealing

As soon as the weather warms up, we'll be completing the sealing of the pipestems that was begun last fall. Pipestem residents should receive notice ahead of time so that vehicles can be moved out of their driveways.  Contact Carol Kalinowski for details. (703-631-1393)

Thanks to Mike and Clare

The HOA would like to give heartfelt thanks to Mike and Clare Loxtercamp for their service to the HOA over the years. Clare has been a long time member of the board and the ARC and Mike has taken over treasurer's duties of late.   They are moving locally and will be missed.  We wish you the best!

Board Positions Open

With the departure of the Loxtercamps, the board has only three official members: Len Rice, President; Carol Kalinowski, Vice President and Treasurer; and Janet Bourroughs, Secretary.

Now, we'd like to take the paucity of board volunteers as a vote of confidence for the current board; at the same time, we'd sure like some help.  We especially need folks who are willing to plan an annual social event to have a voice on the board.   Please call Len if you're interested.  (703-222-5121)

Dues Reminder

If you haven't paid your dues for 2006, please do so immediately along with your late fees.  Late fees accumulate monthly, so please don't delay.

More Spring Cleaning

From the Mosers:

I found some interesting info in a recent article of Washington Parent's March issue also available via their website www.washingtonparent.com.  Did you know that Fairfax County entitles every county resident to four free special trash collections a year?  This includes items too large to fit in a standard garbage truck like a stove, refrigerator or couch.  Call 703-802-3322 or www.fairfax.va.us to schedule a pickup.

Some Local Charities who accept donations and will pick them up:  AMVETS 800-526-8387 or www.amvets.org.  They accept furniture, clothing, toys, shoes, books and reusable household items.  Value Village 301-422-1212.  They accept clothing, computers, small furniture, fax machines, shoes and small appliances.  Some items are not accepted.  Salvation Army 301-277-7878 or www.salvationarmy.org. They accept usable household items, clothing, furniture, appliances, books, cars and RVs.  Purple Heart 301-277-0063 or www.purpleheart.org  They accept usable household items, clothing.  Some items are not accepted.

We have had some success finding free stuff via Reston Recyclers online, but you need a membership.  This article mentions www.Freecycle.org, www.Craigslist.org, www.eBay.com and www.Swapthing.com.  I did find a keyboard for a nursing home resident this way.

Bob and I would be glad to pick up neighborhood donations of gently used or new clothing, toys, books or baby equipment for donation to Grace Ministries via Floris United Methodist Church, which hosts a distribution of food, information in Spanish, clothing for men, women and children, baby and adult diapers, and baby equipment/maternity wear.  There is a great need for small and medium sized men's, all sizes women's and all sizes baby/kids clothing.  A charitable donation form is available upon request.  Items may also be dropped off at the new church 13600 Frying Pan Road, Herndon on the first Friday of each month except April 2006 (due to our relocation). To have your donations picked up, call Bob and Jane Moser via 703-802-4850 voice mail or email rwmoser@earthlink.net.
